State of the Art and Beyond
Dates: 16–20 December 2026
Location: Shenzhen, China
Host: Southern University of Science and Technology
Active fluids, from living cells to synthetic microswimmers, are inherently nonequilibrium systems that consume energy to generate motion and mechanical work. This activity gives rise to unconventional collective phenomena and flow behaviors, including active turbulence and unusual rheological properties.
The Symposium brings together researchers in fluid mechanics, statistical physics, biological physics, and materials science to discuss recent advances in active fluids. It aims to encourage interdisciplinary exchange and explore new directions in the physics of soft and living matter.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
· Spatiotemporal self-organization and active turbulence
· Flow–structure interaction and topological excitations
· Odd viscoelasticity and nonreciprocity
· Mechanochemical coupling and active flow networks
· Nonequilibrium thermodynamics and machine learning applications in active fluids
